Kicking My Caffeine Habit

For months now, I’ve been drinking Red Bull and other highly caffeinated drinks much like water. So earlier this week, I decided to lay off the caffeine for a while. At some point, I wasn’t even noticing the effects anymore. I was pretty much just drinking Red Bull just for the sake of drinking it.

Today is the 3rd day with limited amounts of caffeine and so far, I’m loving it. The first day was a bit difficult. I went through somewhat of a withdrawal. I initially had a headache and found myself eating more candy than I normally would have eaten on a daily basis. However, that night, I slept like a baby. As soon as I lied down and turned off the lights, I fell asleep within a few minutes. I also managed to sleep through the entire night without waking up. That was probably the best night’s sleep that I’ve had in a while.

It’s been a little over a week now since I’ve limited my caffeine intake. For the first few days, I experienced some light headaches, and one really bad one. I’ve been drinking a little bit of green tea each day and have cut down on that a bit. This morning, I had a bit of a Red Bull and while it tasted really good, it gave me a stomach ache.

I’ve been off of heavily caffeinated drinks for over two weeks now. I’m no longer getting the headaches from caffeine withdrawals and I feel great. I don’t feel the need to drink Red Bulls any more. I’ve had a Coke or Pepsi maybe once, but just because I wanted to drink it. I don’t really have any problem falling asleep, but I still do occasionally wake up in the middle of the night. I can normally fall back asleep quite quickly once waking though.
